Longshoremen, Boatmen and Maritime Workers spent the majority of their time working in shipyards and on Navy ships, submarines and other oceangoing vessels. Until much later in the 20th century, these ships were constructed with many different types of asbestos products that trade workers used on a daily basis. From boilers containing contaminated insulation and piping, to asbestos particles circulating through the heating and ventilation systems on the vessels, Longshore, Boat and Maritime Workers are one of the highest risk groups for developing mesothelioma.
