Plumber and Steamfitter trade workers were frequently placed at risk of asbestos exposure as many plumbing, pipe and boiler systems contained parts that were made with asbestos.
Sadly, these trade workers remain at risk to this day: working on and repairing old water and heating systems that may still contain asbestos components. Many buildings and homes, for example, still have asbestos compounds and fillers in the cracks and joints of pipes in older plumbing and heating systems. This creates an ongoing risk for developing mesothelioma if appropriate safety precautions are not taken.
