Iron Workers Union

Written by on
Those who worked in iron foundries as well as iron workers who built bridges, high rise buildings and manufacturing plants worked in environments and situations that often involved high heat. Iron workers often used products that contained asbestos and today, are at risk of developing mesothelioma.
Iron Workers were likely to become inadvertently exposed to asbestos during the process of treating iron with fireproof paint or other asbestos products or while sanding, installing, smelting and drilling.
Sadly, like other tradespeople, the protective clothing that Iron Workers wore during their normal workday may have also contained asbestos. Especially with Iron Workers, fire retardant fibers containing asbestos protected them from the hazards of their job. Many also joined Iron Worker Unions and we have listed some of them below for your reference.
